Binh Tay Market

Chợ Bình Tây

Is it worth visiting? Yes, it is Cholon's grand old market and far more local than Ben Thanh. Come in the morning for the wholesale bustle and breakfast stalls, or in the evening for the Cholon night street of food stalls around the market (daily 6 pm to midnight).

Why go

  • Built in 1928 and opened in 1930, it was funded by the merchant Quách Đàm, whose statue stands in the courtyard. Its Chinese-style roofs make it one of Saigon's most photogenic buildings.
  • It is a working wholesale market: dried goods, spices, kitchenware and snacks sold by the sack.
  • Since December 2025 the Phố đêm Chợ Lớn night street fills the four streets around the market with food stalls and food trucks every evening.

How to get there

  • City bus 1 ends at Cholon bus station near the market (free until 31 Dec 2026).
  • Ride-hailing from District 1 takes about 25–35 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Ask for “Chợ Bình Tây”.

Local tips

  • Inside the market, try bún thịt nướng and chè nhãn nhục (longan sweet soup), as recommended in creators' videos.
  • Wholesale stalls may not sell single items; snack and souvenir stalls do.
  • Keep bags zipped in the crowded aisles.
